About the Boogaloo
The Boogaloo is a Class 1 Electric Mountain Bike Race (eMTB). The race event will be held on a course at Main Lodge at Mammoth Mountain’s Bike Park specifically designed for eMTB racers. Expect near vertical ascents, killer drops, obstacles, berms, and more that will take you and your eMTB to the limits of what you thought possible on two wheels.
Class 1 eMTB is a specific classification for sustainable use on trails, paths or riding areas. Class 1 eMTB models are defined as “a bicycle with fully operable pedals, and an electric motor under 750 Watts peak power that must be pedaled to activate the motor and that ceases to provide power above 20 mph."
There will be three classes at this year's event including: Pro (Invite Only), Open Class (Open), and Junior Division (14 & Under). All participants will use an eMTB provided by a top quality bike manufacturer or provided by the racer.
Race format for Open (32 riders) and Junior (24 riders) will be a field of competing in four heats of eight racers with the fastest four riders out of each heat advancing into a Main Event Final of 16. Race entry includes: use of eMTB (all racers required to ride provided bikes), Troy Lee Designs Helmet, Signature Race Plate, Race Bib and event t-shirt. Awards for top five finishers will include trophies and a Bosch power drill for Open Class and TLD gloves for Junior!
Race format for the Pro Class will be a field of 24 riders competing in four heats of six racers with the fastest four riders out of each heat advancing into a Main Event Final of 16. Race entry includes: use of eMTB (Pro class riders may use their own bike but will have to undergo a tech inspection), TLD Helmet, Signature Race Plate, Race Bib and event t-shirt. Awards will include 100% Payout of Pro Purse and a Bosch Power Drill!
New for this year – a cool twist on how racers will secure their bikes! Event registration and packet pick-up will begin on Friday, September 21st at 7:30am. Participants will pick-up their race plate at registration and head out to the eMTB demo zone (Open Friday, September 21st from 9:00am-5:00pm and Saturday, September 22nd from 9:00am-12:30pm) and have the opportunity to try a range of Class 1 eMTB’s from top vendors. When the participant finds the bike they love – they will zip tie their plate to the bike and that denotes “their” bike for Saturday’s race.
Pro Racers are welcome to bring their own Class 1 eMTB and the bike will be checked upon race entry by an expert team to ensure the bike has not been altered.
Racers will be placed in heats randomly by the race organizer. Heat boards will be displayed by 12:00pm on Saturday, September 22nd at the Start/Finish area.
Awards will take place at 5:30pm on the Main Lodge Sundeck after the event on Saturday, September 22nd. Be sure to stick around for some Sierra Nevada Beer, BBQ, and Live Music!
